What is Tour for Life?

Tour for Life is a fully supported multi-day cycling event rather than a one-day gran fondo. Riders share camps, meals, technical support and the experience of completing a long stage for a common cause. The organiser currently lists overnight stays, three meals per day, mechanical assistance, sports massage and training guidance among the participant services.

Fundraising is central to the event. Participants collect sponsorship money for the Erasmus MC Foundation, supporting cancer research alongside the sporting challenge.

How to prepare for eight consecutive stages

The first three days include Alpe d’Huez, Col de Sarenne, Col du Glandon and Grand Colombier. Stage four is the longest at 183 kilometres, while stage five returns to serious climbing in the Vosges. The final days cross Luxembourg and the Ardennes before Maastricht.

Train for recovery as well as distance. Build endurance over several months, add progressive climbing, practise back-to-back long rides and test the exact food, drink and clothing strategy you will use. Conservative pacing matters more than chasing a fast time on one climb.

Tour for Life 3Days

The shorter option runs from 3 to 5 September 2027 and joins the final three stages through France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands. It is more accessible than the full route but remains a substantial challenge requiring preparation for long distances and repeated climbing.

Bike setup and equipment

Use a reliable road bike that you already know well. Check tyres, brakes, drivetrain wear, gearing, critical bolts, saddle, shoes and waterproof mountain clothing well before departure. Avoid an untested position or component change immediately before the event.

With many similar bicycles, helmets, bottles and bags moving between camps and support areas, clear identification makes your equipment easier to recognise.

Travel, fundraising and daily organisation

Confirm transport, luggage, sleeping arrangements and arrival instructions with the organiser before making non-refundable bookings. Start fundraising early, explain why you are riding and share training milestones with supporters.

A repeatable evening routine—recover, eat, prepare clothing, charge electronics, check the bike and sleep—reduces stress as fatigue builds.
