The organiser confirms 15–18 April 2027. General registration for races and rides, festival passes and camping is scheduled to open on 6 October 2026 at 10:00am Pacific. Choose the experience that suits your bike

The programme includes mountain-bike disciplines such as cross-country, downhill, dual slalom, enduro and eMTB, plus gravel. Recreational options include the Off-Road Tour and the Pacifico and Carmelo gran fondos. These are different experiences: do not choose a bike setup or training plan from the festival name alone.

For an off-road event, build your checklist around the terrain, tyre choice and the bike you actually ride. For a gran fondo, think about time in the saddle and a comfortable road setup. Confirm the specific course, distance, equipment requirements and start arrangements on your chosen event page.

What is new on the Sea Otter courses in 2027?

The organiser has announced a new 15-mile gravel option alongside 30- and 60-mile events; the 90-mile race is reserved for the professional/Life Time Grand Prix field. These are approximately 24, 48, 97 and 145 kilometres, not interchangeable versions of the same day out. The shorter distance offers a different commitment from a long endurance race, so compare climbing and the final course as well as mileage.

The 2027 gravel routes use Fort Ord terrain, mixing climbs, descents and non-technical singletrack. All Fuego cross-country courses are being renewed, with maps and elevation details expected in mid-October. Enduro is presented as a one-day event with its first stage on the Laguna Seca downhill course and stages two to four in Toro Park. Festival pass, racing and time at the expo

Sea Otter is also a place to discover bikes and equipment, watch racing and spend a weekend with other riders. According to the first-timer guide, race and ride entries include a four-day festival pass. A visitor who is not entering a ride should check the separate festival-pass options. Allow time for the expo and demonstrations instead of scheduling every hour around your start.

Where to stay and how to organise your visit

On-site camping at Laguna Seca keeps you close to the festival; Monterey and Salinas offer accommodation alternatives. Compare the total journey to your start, bike storage and parking arrangements before booking. Build in time for arrival, collecting race materials and checking your bike after transport. For a family or mixed-ability group, agree a meeting point and separate riding and spectator plans: the festival spans several disciplines and riding areas, so everyone need not follow the same timetable.

Prepare your equipment before travelling

Give yourself time to ride the bike after its last service. A familiar setup makes it easier to spot a rubbing brake, an uncomfortable contact point or a bottle that is awkward to reach. Avoid packing an untested change simply because it looks faster on paper.

Check tyres, brakes and drivetrain, then take a normal training ride.
Lay out the helmet, shoes, clothing, bottles and spares you use with that bike.
Keep registration details and travel arrangements together.
Photograph your packed equipment so you can check it again before the return trip.
