Peaks Challenge Falls Creek 2027 — Australia
Date: 7 March 2027
Peaks Challenge Falls Creek is one of Australia’s toughest one-day cycling events.
The challenge takes riders through the Victorian Alps over approximately 235 km with more than 4,000 metres of climbing, making preparation, pacing and nutrition critical. The organiser has officially confirmed the 2027 edition for Sunday 7 March. Bicycle Network

Paris–Roubaix Challenge 2027 — France
Date: TBC — priority pre-registration open
Paris–Roubaix Challenge gives amateur riders the opportunity to tackle the legendary cobbled sectors of northern France and finish in the Roubaix Velodrome. The latest official route structure offers approximately 70 km, 145 km and 170 km options, while the exact 2027 date and final routes remain subject to confirmation.

Mallorca 312 2027 — Spain
Date: 24 April 2027
Mallorca 312 has become one of the biggest amateur road cycling events in Europe.
The event attracts thousands of riders to Mallorca and offers three distances, with roads closed to traffic during the event. The full 312 km route is one of the most recognised endurance challenges on the international gran fondo calendar.

Fred Whitton Challenge 2027 — United Kingdom
Date: 9 May 2027
If you want to discover just how hard a British sportive can be, the Fred Whitton Challenge belongs near the top of the list.
Starting and finishing in the Lake District, riders face approximately 180 km and some of Britain’s most feared climbs, including Hardknott and Wrynose passes.

Quebrantahuesos 2027 — Spain & France
Date: TBC
Quebrantahuesos is one of Spain’s most famous cycling challenges.
Starting from Sabiñánigo in the Spanish Pyrenees, the main Gran Fondo traditionally covers around 200 km, crossing major mountain passes in Spain and France.
Demand is high enough that access to the event normally involves a ballot system, and the organiser is already offering ways for riders to secure places for the 2027 edition, although the 2027 event date has not yet been officially published. Quebrantahuesos

Dragon Ride 2027 — Wales
Date: 13 June 2027
Dragon Ride is one of the UK’s most established and demanding sportives.
Based around the spectacular roads of South Wales and the Bannau Brycheiniog, the event offers several route options ranging from a more accessible sportive to the huge Dragon Devil challenge.
There is an additional attraction in 2027: riders will experience roads and scenery linked to the 2027 Tour de France Grand Départ in Wales.

Nove Colli 2027 — Italy
Date: 23 May 2027
Nove Colli is one of Italy’s classic gran fondos, starting and finishing in Cesenatico. The headline 200 km route combines nine climbs with approximately 3,800 metres of elevation gain.

Marmotte Alpes 2027 — France
Provisional date: 27 June 2027 — TBC
La Marmotte is one of Europe’s most demanding and internationally recognised mountain sportives. The current course reference links Bourg d’Oisans with Alpe d’Huez over approximately 177 km and 5,000 metres of climbing, taking in iconic Alpine passes such as the Glandon, Télégraphe and Galibier.

Maratona dles Dolomites 2027 — Italy
Date: 4 July 2027
Few amateur cycling events combine difficulty, scenery and cycling culture quite like the Maratona dles Dolomites.
The event takes place in the Italian Dolomites and brings thousands of cyclists onto some of the most spectacular mountain roads in Europe.

L’Étape du Tour de France 2027 — France
Date and route: TBC
For amateur cyclists dreaming of experiencing the Tour de France, few events come closer than L’Étape du Tour.
Thousands of riders tackle an actual mountain stage of the Tour de France on closed roads, often featuring some of the most famous climbs in professional cycling.
The organisers have already confirmed that the 2027 route will be revealed on 22 October 2026, during the presentation of the 2027 Tour de France. L’Etape du Tour de France

RBC GranFondo Whistler 2027 — Canada
Date: TBC
GranFondo Whistler takes cyclists from Vancouver towards Whistler along one of Canada’s most spectacular cycling corridors.
The current Gran Fondo route is approximately 146 km and runs from Stanley Park toward Whistler via the Sea-to-Sky corridor.

How to Choose Your Cycling Event for 2027
Not every sportive or gran fondo requires the same type of rider.
If you’re entering your first big cycling event, distance alone shouldn’t determine your choice. Consider:
- total climbing and maximum gradients;
- expected riding time;
- altitude and weather;
- whether roads are fully or partially closed;
- travel and bike transport;
- registration or ballot requirements;
- how much time you realistically have to train.
A 150 km mountainous sportive can be substantially harder than a flatter 200 km event.
For beginners, gradually progressing from local sportives to longer gran fondos is usually a better approach than choosing the most extreme event immediately.
Prepare Your Bike for a 2027 Gran Fondo
Your fitness is only part of the preparation.
Before travelling to a major cycling event, check your tyres, brakes, drivetrain, gearing and contact points. Make sure anything you change is tested several weeks before race day rather than the night before the event.
And when thousands of bikes are standing together at the start, feed stations or hotel bike rooms, a small personal detail can also make yours much easier to recognise.
